Part 1
The role of a cleaner and why standards matter.
Principles, schedules and inspections.
Choosing and caring for equipment, and colour coding.
Reading labels, safe dilution and storage.
Protective equipment and when to wear it.
Part 2
How germs spread and how to stop them.
A step-by-step toilet cleaning procedure.
Sorting, handling and removing waste.
Dealing politely with the public while you work.
Hazards, accidents and reporting.
Professional cleaners follow these every time.
Clean high surfaces first, so dust falls onto areas you have not cleaned yet.
Start in the cleanest area and finish in the dirtiest.
Sweep or dust before you mop or wipe.
Start at the furthest point and work towards the exit.
Fold your cloth in four, so you always have a clean side.
The words you will hear on the job.
Safety data sheet: the document that explains how to use and store a chemical safely.
Personal protective equipment, like gloves, masks and safety boots.
Mixing a chemical with water. A 1:10 dilution is 100 ml of chemical in 1 litre.
Different colours for different areas, so a toilet cloth is never used in a kitchen.
Never mix chemicals. Some combinations give off dangerous gas.
The steps that stop germs spreading from surface to surface and person to person.
